cruise the orient

I hid the bottle behind the painting leaning

The frame ornate art deco men sports coats pipe smoke

Shuffle board smokestacks lounge deck silk chiffon

Well mannered voices jostling for space &

I dream of the Orient away from you

Cancelled Christmas threw both doors open

Invited the rain in clouds peering like Toms

I’m hurting thoughts of you grit salt wound

The show wraps another episode down

My tongue swells mouth searching for a pearl

The phone flickers to life and I incredulous

Answer calm without feeling armor oyster voyeur

My voice is a lever I lower that cadence I know you like

Friend friend friend friend friend friend friend

To defend against loose ends that lead to dead ends

When you cry it sounds like laughter I smile back

I picture your tears a pool kissing a warm bank

You want me to listen to you realize I’m all eyes

The track warbles plaintive keening euphoric in panic

An epiphany or AI psychosis friend or foe now or no

Mentally a sigh a hand a glass a bottle behind a painting leaning

I don’t tell you I love you this time not this time

Perhaps again a different life when you pull yourself

Away that pool kissing a warm bank take a walk

Clear your head make your way to my door

Look at me finally someone you cannot bend

See the future build a life protect each other from slipping

Love a loop a tether to the past a nexus a portal a step in time

When I look back fighting to pull from a bottle in the now

Some when some day some plane that lifts off

I will say I love you when you will hear it

And I wonder at present will I choose which mirror

Will I hook my hopes on you in which when will I trust you

A beautiful crier sobbing on Christmas day

While I alone pull from a bottle after your voice

Pulls at places within me I don’t care for

When I wake up tomorrow will you write about me

When you wake up tomorrow will I write about you

Are you lost in your reflection or is this what I am

Are we enchanted foils friends foes in love with ourselves

I stumble make coffee laugh at the cosmic disarray

Asked for faith when my mama told me you’d step into my life

In the form of a beautiful lost hellbent blind for himself boy

At odds with the place when I exist distrustful of heart

To call me one hour behind when you realize you love me

My mind maps the terrain wrestles with the geography of time

Am I your future are you my past are you the west am I the east

And I find morsels of you in my teeth in my hair in my skin where we collide

Shivering the gale at the doors a river blistering I reach for the edge of your soul

I ask why I question your arrival I silently beg you to find me in time

Will you decide to arrive express and forgo freewill rebuild at last

I fear the outcome the painting the ornate at leisure

And do whatever to forget the past a trick of light

Hope can be a road a sea a path to the east an eventuality

An illusion a false start a beggar a bard a boy lonely

I’ll hold myself hard bruise and shut both doors

A thought traded for a bottle behind the Orient

A pearl can be swallowed returned to the wound left to rot
